Be Who You Are
Happy Wednesday Everyone,
So the days are proving to be busier with everyone in the building on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and I never got to post a blog yesterday, but I am getting back on the horse today, with a documentary recommendation.
This past weekend, I watched the Netflix documentary called, Becoming Elmo. Here is the Trailer.
The last line of the trailer is, "focus on what makes you happy." That is why I would encourage you to watch Becoming Elmo so you can think about what makes you happy! Kevin Clash had a passion, and he never let anyone - peers, family members, or teachers, deter him from that passion. He stayed true to his vision and he went after that vision with dogged determination.
In addition to that, he had a great, "fake it till you make it," kind of mentality. He often felt afraid or too shy to take important steps in reaching his goals. However, even when experiencing those emotions of self-doubt, he jumped in with both feet and pushed himself to get better, learn more, and surround himself with mentors - people that had traveled the path before him - so that he could learn his craft.
Kevin's story is one that will have you grinning ear to ear as you watch Elmo and the other Sesame Street characters come to life on the documentary screen. Kevin and Elmo will teach you to never give up on your dreams and to pursue your truth no matter what.
The other thing I loved about this documentary is how the people that Kevin was surrounded by - his parents, siblings, and mentors, and even eventually his classmates - became his biggest cheerleaders. From this aspect of the documentary, one can learn what true love looks like. It looks like support. It looks like believing in others. It looks like encouraging others to reach for their dreams, and it looks like building people up rather than tearing them down.
I encourage you to take some time to watch this film - maybe even sit down with your caregivers and family to do so. You won't regret learning about Elmo and the love he has to share with others. For now, here's Elmo and friends with a little advice.
Have a Great day Everyone, keep going!
Be Well,
Mrs. Hempey
