It Worked!

Happy Friday Everyone!

I am happy to report, to those of you that read yesterday's blog, that I screwed up the courage to chat with my hygenist yesterday at my dental cleaning appointment, and the result was great!  I still don't like to get my teeth cleaned, but she gave me some really good ideas for reducing the pain, handed me two Advil to take prior to any scraping, and was able to rub numbing gell over my gums as she worked. Even though it didn't make it pain-free, it made it tolerable.  I am so happy I decided to speak up and advocate for what I needed.  Let this be a lesson...when you ask for what you need in respectful, mature, and appropriate ways, you can often come to, at least a compromise, but hopefully a solution that works for everyone!

Okay...enough about my teeth!

Let's move on to more important things like getting excited for the break next week, and gearing up for a four-day-a-week in-person learning scenario for our 7th and 8th graders!  Woo hoo!  I am so happy you'll all be joining us more "full-time" for the end of the school year!  I am sure that there are some mixed feelings out there about this decision and this return, but I do hope that despite the mixed feelings, the final 37 days of school after the break (who's counting) can provide 7th and 8th graders a springboard to a more normal year next year.

I hope that in our last 37 days we get to have practice good habits around being successful students.  Just think about it...8th graders, you are headed off to high school after two years of upheaval, so hopefully, this little stretch will get you geared up for a great transition to Harwood or whatever school you plan to attend.  And 7th graders, I hope you get a good perspective about what quality leadership looks like because that's one of the roles of being an 8th grader - they lead and you follow, but while you follow, you learn how to be next year's successful leaders.

No matter how you feel about being here for the end of April, May, and the start of June, remember that we adults will be here for you no matter what.  Talk to us, advocate for your needs, and share what you are feeling when necessary.  The reality is that time is going to fly and before you know it, it will all be cotton candy skies!  (Check out this summertime playlist).

Okay, but first we get a break!!  What are you doing to do?  The weather looks okay except for some possible mid-week showers, but hopefully, you can get outside, sleep in a little bit, connect with vaccinated family, and do a couple fun and outside of the usual kind of things!  Above all take care of yourself, and we'll see ya all back here real soon!

Be well,

Mrs. Hempey
