Digging In

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

Today we dig in for a long stretch of school leading up to February break. We have five weeks of important learning ahead, and it will be important for us to stay focused and on track with positive attitudes and strong growth mindsets.  This stretch of the year can be hard because it's dark and cold and there isn't really a build-up to any big events like there is during the holiday season.

Tomorrow we have the inauguration to look forward to, and whether or not you support the incoming administration, we should all be rooting for their success, because when our leaders are successful, we are successful.  Since we are all home tomorrow, I hope you'll watch the inauguration.  On January 20th every four years, our country gets to witness a peaceful transition of power from one administration to the other.  This is an essential component of our democracy which ensures that every four years, the people's voices are heard and that we always have diverse voices and robust discourse among our leaders.  Inaugurations are always historic democratic events, and I encourage you to be part of this democratic process by watching.

After the inauguration, we hopefully have COVID vaccinations to look forward to and hopefully an opportunity to get back to a more normalized way of life.  Until vaccinations are prevalent and we can get our numbers back down, it's important that we all stay vigilant with our safety protocols like masking, distancing, and hand-washing.  I know it feels tiring, and since we haven't seen cases here at school, it feels like we should be able to let our guards down a bit, but it is because we've been so diligent that we haven't seen cases, so keep up the good work and help keep us all healthy be practicing safety protocols diligently.

Because all this can be tiring, it's important to surround ourselves with good vibes and reminders that we are rockin' it!  So here are a few of these reminders that I've collected lately...

Hard work and determination pay off...don't give up!

Growth takes effort, and can even be painful at times, but know that your efforts will pay off, so hang tough and ask for support when you are experiencing a low point.   Even in these darker times, commit to growth and giving it your best each day...

You're doing a good job and you matter!

Though this video is dedicated to doctors, nurses, teachers, and parents, I think it's important that you know that YOU are doing a good job too!  You are putting in lots of hard work academically, and emotionally, and it's important that you hear that your work matters to making this whole thing work, so thank you!

I hope you all have a fantastic day, and if you need help digging deep during this stretch of learning, please do let me know!

Be Well,

Mrs Hempey
