Ablaze Amazing

Happy Tuesday everyone!

When I was in college, (back in 1996)...oh my, was it really 24 years ago...yup!

Okay, moving on...

An artist I listened to a fair amount was Alanis Morissette.  I was never a singer or musician myself, so I was not super passionate about any one artist, but I liked Morissette's style, and she was a contemporary so the things she was singing about seemed pretty relevant to me.  Her most popular song was called Ironic, but she really had only a couple of successful albums.  While I hear her songs from the '90 every once in a while, I haven't thought too much about her music in a long time.

Until last week...

Alanis Morissette, now a mom in her forties, like me, has a new album called Such Pretty Forks in the Road.  I haven't listened to the whole album so I supposed I can't recommend it in its entirety, but I heard the song Ablaze and immediately fell in love with it for two reasons...

1.  Because I am a mom

2.  Because I am an educator and counselor

For both of these important jobs, I wholeheartedly identify with Morissette's belief that it is my mission to help keep the light in your eyes ablaze.

Have a listen...

In the song she says.."Often we think that there's is not enough, it might feel dark, it might feel lonely and you wonder why you're here.  You may be overcome with darkness and a sense of hopelessness but it won't matter if you keep the core connected to the oneness."  And later, "the first thing that you'll notice is that everything is temporary, the next thing you might notice is that we will always be a family."

These lyrics are filled with meaning! We have been navigating many forks in the road these past months (beautiful and otherwise), which can make one feel lost at times.  It can feel pretty dark.  It's my job, to support you and keep that light ablaze through this temporary moment - and on to the next.  It's also the job of your loved ones and the people that care for you.  You are part of a family in some way shape or form.  Whether it's with parents, grandparents, neighbors, community members, teachers, or counselors.  When we take care of each other like a family we all work together to keep that light ablaze.  Here at CBMS, we are a cougar family, and we will say connected!

So to all you gentle warriors out there...keep on keeping.  I'm rooting for you!

You're awesome, so be awesome!

Oh...you should watch this version of the song that Morissette did from her home for the Tonight Show.  Working from home rocks and is crazy all at once!  ;)
