Why I am here...Loving People's Faces
It's Friday...the end of another long (but manageable) week. Welcome back!
Every once in awhile someone will ask me why I decided to become a school counselor, and it's often hard to articulate the answer. When I saw this Facebook spot this morning, I felt like it gave me a way to explain why. It is a poignant message about the moment in time, and a beautiful reminder of all that we still have, and it gave me a way to describe my passion for this work.
I love people's faces - metaphorically speaking. I love the stories they tell, the good they are capable of, the storms they can withstand, and the joy they share with those around them.
Sometimes, when my family is in a public space (back when we used to enjoy public spaces anyway), my husband will say to me, "stop staring!" I am horrible about it at times, but frankly, people fascinate me! I am so interested in the stories behind the faces. Really that is what being a counselor is about. It's about engaging in an individual's story and being interested. It's about asking the questions that get people thinking about themselves. It's about helping someone discover their personal history. It's about helping someone pinpoint their goals for the future, and articulate their beliefs about who they want to be.
Working from home has been okay. I have my cozy little desk which looks out over my front yard. My own kiddos and my husband have their desks and school workspaces close to hand, so we get to see each other A LOT. 😜 I have also had the flexibility to try some new creative things that I would not have otherwise done had we all been carrying out our routines within the walls of the school building. BUT, and it's a big but, I miss all of your beautiful, crazy, zany, unique, special, loving, frustrated, capable, and amazing faces!
So thank you all for doing what you're doing - for joining us in this community sacrifice - so that we can all get back to seeing each other's faces in person again soon!
From my face...
...to yours...have a great weekend!

Seeing faces and wondering what the story is behind it. This is why I take pictures to create a memory bank of times different folks have shared a part of my life forever. Loved today's entry and thank you Mrs. Hempey for sharing.
