What's Your Dream?

I have a small quote hanging in my office, and it says, "set some goals, smash the heck out of them, and clap for your darn self."

If you want to see an example of some goal setting, have a sit down this week to watch, Free Solo, the story of Alex Honnold, a free solo climber who scaled El Capitan in Yosemite National Park in June 2017.  Just watching is not for the faint of heart, but I was completely enthralled by Hannold's mental and physical preparation, as he began to consider undertaking this historic feat.

One of my favorite portions of the film was when he began his first El Cap free solo attempt in the fall of 2016.  He quickly bailed when he didn't feel right about his ability to succeed.  I really appreciated his ability to recognize that ultimate success meant listening to his inner instincts telling him the time wasn't right.  I was really glad they included that failed attempt in the film.  Essentially, he allowed himself the room to fail along the journey but didn't accept that the failure had to be a stopping point or a roadblock to success.

What Honnold does is extremely dangerous but he is a well-prepared professional who assesses the risks and rewards each time he climbs.  What are your goals?  What's your dream?  Your personal pursuits don't have to include personal risk, but they do have to move you forward to new levels of success for your future.  With the example of Honnold and others like Ryan Hawks, who's core values I discussed in a previous post, take a few hours this week to think about things you want to achieve and outline some steps to getting there.

If you are interested in sharing any of those goals, feel free to reach out via email and share your thoughts!  Good luck!
