The Ripple
Happy Tuesday Everyone,
Have you ever thought about the ripple effect that you have? You know what I mean, right? You know...when you throw a stone in a body of calm water and the water ripples out from the center affecting a larger and larger area concentrically outwards? Would you believe me if I told you that your (our) connection to others in the world has the same kind of ripple effect?
Well, it does. We've kind of seen this effect as we've learned about COVID and how germs spread. Spreading COVID was definitely NOT a positive ripple, but it a goog visual. If you have one infected person, they might infect two others, who then infect two more others, and then those four infect two more others and now we effectively (and in this case negatively) have affected the lives of 15 others people.
Imagine having that same effect on 15 people, and scores more, in a positive way. With the big and small ways we are in the world, we make an impact on others. We could choose hate, misinformation, negativity, and despair, but I implore you to instead consciously choose joy, happiness, positivity, and hope!
I started this blog, two hundred some odd posts ago, with the idea of looking for helpers when you need support. Today I want to remind you of the individual who coined the phrase "look for the helpers." It was Fred Rogers. Mr. Rogers, as you may remember hosted a children's television program for many years on which he taught children about the concepts of forgiveness, how to face your fears, and how to express your emotions in helpful ways. He also taught kids about spreading joy and giving kindness to others. Over his lifetime, Mr. Rogers and his neighborhood affected so many young children who watched his program - me for one! Here I am years later reflecting on it and teaching you all through his voice. How is that for a ripple!?!
I got thinking about this ripple effect after seeing this picture...
Admittedly, Mr. Rogers had a worldwide and long-lasting impact on others, but I also want you to remember that even if you are not a hugely famous Mr. Rogers, you can still make a difference for others. You can just do simple things, little things, that impact the world in positive ways. Just like the whale swimming through the ocean, you can make rainbows for others, just by being the best version of you that you can be.
So go out there today and make rainbows, and pay attention to your ripple. If your ripple starts to affect others in negative ways, think about what can you do to change the effect you have to make CBMS and our community a more positive place.
Have a great day everyone!
Mrs. Hempey
