Feel Good Friday
Good Morning Everyone!
It feels like it's been a long week for lots of folks...we're certainly in the thick of it, and people are really working hard to stay focused and manage all the stressors that exist.
Recently, I was discussing the idea of perseveration with some folks. Perseveration is when we focus on things that worry us. Wikipedia describes it as, "thinking about negative events in the past or in the future (e.g. worry, rumination and brooding, but also mind wandering about negative topics)." It's really easy to get stuck in perseveration land and important to practice the skill of shifting your focus to things that are going well or that make you happy. I challenge you today, on this feel-good Friday, to make a list...yes I want you to actually write it out...of anything that went well this week or you felt good about. It doesn't have to be big or even all that important, but shifting our focus to the good stuff can help us feel more positive and hopeful.
Here is my list from this week.
Sunday:
- My daughter celebrated her 8th birthday and we had yummy chocolate cake and laughed about how you can't "blow" out candles and more!
- It was cold and we didn't go anywhere, so I wore my PJ's all day!
- I started my week off with exercise before school
- I made a tasty cheeseburger casserole salad for dinner and everybody cleaned their plates!
- I ordered cupcakes for my son's birthday and made a plan to bring them to his friends next week.
- I remembered to stop at Cochran's on the way home to pick up my daughter's skis.
- My husband and I spent time planning a possible summer trip - if we can get vaccinated (fingers crossed)!
- Chicken parmesan for dinner...yes please!
- I got to sleep later because of the remote day
- I got to bring my kids to school in the morning and pick them up at the end of their day
- I did a lot of work around anti-racism and prepped for Black History Month
- I picked out some new glasses frames.
- We ordered take out from the Rez!
- I went skating with the 5th and 6th grade PE classes!
- Thursday is pizza night in the Hempey Household...whoo hoo!
- My kids read a lot this week!
- I watched my favorite show before heading to bed.
- I woke up each morning this week and exercised before school.
- My car started this morning despite the cold.
- We have some family fun planned for the weekend!
