Always Looking to Make the World Better!

Happy Friday Everyone!  

Mr. Drake shared a news article with me earlier in the week, and embedded in that article, which was about making school more "human," during this time of the pandemic, was this little gem about making the world better.  I thought it was a good share for a Friday!  


Here is a little background on the video which was reported in the New York Times Article, by Jal Mehta.  

"Charlotte Bowder, a student at Casco Bay High School in Maine, had the idea of writing a song that would celebrate community amid social isolation. She recruited her friend Luthando Mngqibisa to sing co-lead, and with the help of the EL Education network of which the school is part, recruited 34 other musicians — from high school string players to elementary schoolers on pots and pans — across 11 schools in seven states to play the song together virtually." (2020)

I hope that you can have a, "make the world better," moment this weekend as we all go off to our respective homes and families!

Lived Experience

Good Morning Everyone, Today I'd like to continue addressing social justice and antiracism from my blog. What is antiracism you ask? Well, let me explain what I have come to understand.  Antiracism is when we actively take a stance against racial injustice.  It is fighting for equality.  It is going beyond just thoughts and feelings and taking action.  That action can come in many forms.  It can be in the form of educating your self or others, peaceful protest, monetary support for organizations like Black Lives Matter or the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), or it can be about simply lending your voice to someone in need.   Some people would argue that topics such as these are wading into the water of politics and taking sides and that we shouldn't be talking about them in school or with young kids.  My response is that I don't care what political side people are on.  This is a human rights issue!  It's...
