It's The Little Things.
Good Morning Sunshine!
So like many of you, I am sure, I have developed a bit of a routine for this new normal. I wake up around 6:30 so that I have time to exercise for a half-hour and then get cleaned up, dressed, and ready to be at my desk for 7:30.
Part of "arriving" at work for me is making sure I have my tea in hand and my slippers on. This morning, I could not find my slippers!
They weren't by the front door where I sometimes leave them if I switch into my sneakers for outdoor time.
They weren't on the back porch where we were working on bikes yesterday afternoon before going out the back door.
They weren't under the kitchen table where they sometimes get kicked off at dinner time.
They weren't next to my bed...yes, the logical place, you'd think!
They weren't in either of my kid's rooms, so I hadn't kicked them off while reading stories at bedtime.
They weren't under my work desk, which was unfortunately the last place I was before I called it a night...sigh!
Where were those pesky slippers? I needed them to start my day. My feet get cold, and I can't work with cold feet. I sat down three times to get started without the slippers, and I just couldn't get focused, so I got back up to hunt again.
You know where I found those slippers? Next to the elliptical machine in my basement! I must have left them there when I finished exercising at 7:00 AM yesterday morning! Do you know what that means? I went the whole day yesterday without my slippers! Can you believe it? A whole day without my slippers! My mind is blown. How could I not have worn my slippers yesterday?
You might be wondering about these slippers. Why are they so important to me? Well, I'll tell you.
Most of our downstairs has hardwood floors or tile, so my feet get cold, even if I have socks on. My desk sits right in front of a low window in my living room, so with the mornings still being chilly and the windows cold, my feet are too! Annnnnd....these slippers are perfect! I have had them forever, I am talking like at least 10 years here. They are from LL Bean. They are leather...no fur for me...it makes my feet too hot. And they are butter-soft. They are mules, so they cover my toes, but not my heels, which is perfect for my needs, and they have a little leather outer-sole, so if I have to run outside to the porch or walkway, they don't get soggy and wet. They are the perfect slipper for me. I have tried other slippers over the past 10 years, thinking that these will need replacing soon, and I have always gone back to these. Others are too hot, not warm enough, or just not...right!
I am so glad I found my slippers this morning! I knew they couldn't have gone far. Heck we don't go anywhere, right?
It really is the little things sometimes. Especially in this instance. At this moment in our lifetimes. It is the little things that will get us through. What are your little things? What is getting you through? Feel free to comment below and share some of the little things that are getting you through each day.
Now, I need to go check out the LL Bean website...I just found a hole in my slippers!
Here's to the little things!

A little thing that helps me get through each day is listening to an audio book. I love the voices and the story. It is a break from my here and now and a peek into a different world.
