REPOSTING
Tonight, on the eve of a new school year, after a long time away from our, "home away from home," I wanted you all to know that I didn't forget my promise to welcome you all back "home" to Crossett Brook when the time arrived.
Tonight I repost my April 12th blog for those of you that didn't read it the first time around...

Happy Sunday all!
If you are celebrating a holiday today, Easter or Passover, I wish you a day filled with peace and family connections.
In the last few days, I've been thinking a lot about the idea of work (and for you, school) as home...it has really resonated with me, and I, like many of you I am sure, are grieving the loss of it right now.
During normal times, when we don't have a pandemic, it's pretty common to grumble because we have to wake up early, we have to juggle all of our tasks and responsibilities, we have to manage difficult moments, and we have to put energy into things that we wish we didn't have to. Then something like this comes along, and it opens our eyes, reminding us just how important those routines, experiences, and the people that come along with them are.
Along with the early mornings come bright greetings and warm welcomes, along with the tasks and responsibilities, come support and encouragement, along with the difficult moments, comes the opportunity for success, and along with expended energy comes a feeling of satisfaction, knowing that we have accomplished a goal. There are things we come to expect from home - nurturing, support, growth, and accomplishment.
Unfortunately, this pandemic has taken some of this sense of home away from us all - staff and students alike. We can try to re-create it in a different form through online meets, virtual hugs, and words of encouragement in a blog, but we won't truly get it back until we come back home.
I've been thinking about what it will be like to come back home, and I imagine it will feel like this - all full of emotion, and conviction, and pride...
So, for now, I am going to hold on because we will come back home, and as the song says, "these eyes will not be blinded by the light." I will work each day to try to remember what I have to be grateful for - students to nurture, co-workers to laugh with, the security of a job to wake-up to, and the knowledge that each day I have the opportunity to make a difference.
Be Well,
Mrs. Hempey
...Welcome home, everyone! I can't wait to see you!
