Value What Matters

Hello Everyone,

I am happy to report that I am feeling a bit more grounded this morning.  I'll share that a member of my extended family, my 16-year-old nephew, had a serious medical event on Tuesday afternoon, (which was not Covid related).  While he is not out of the woods yet, he is being well cared for at the hospital and has shown some good improvements over the past 24 hours.  Needless to say, my family is breathing a bit easier this morning, and I thank anyone who is reading this for sending positive vibes my family's way!

Generally, my blog posts each day are born out of my musings, things I see or read, and my wish to convey messages of peace, calm, and clarity during this otherwise difficult time.  So it's funny that I ran across this photo on Sunday and had planned to post it at some point.  I think it fits for all of you, and it certainly is clear to me that I needed this message this week.

To say my last couple of days have been humbling has been an understatement.  It really puts into perspective what matters right now.  I know we'd all love a hair cut, a meal out at a favorite restaurant, the chance to hang with our friends in classrooms and hallways, or permission to get back on the soccer fields and baseball diamonds, but for now, let us all be thankful for the things that we do have - our health, our families, our virtual and social connections, the ability to laugh, and to just be...

This is not to say that a fresh hair cut or hitting the walk-off home run is nonsense, but we do get caught up in nonsense sometimes when we are going about our daily business.  Things I sometimes hear, "She looked at me," "I heard that he said...," "they texted me and said..."  I hope that after this we'll have learned to cut through some of this "nonsense" and move forward with positive assumptions and beliefs that everyone is doing the best they can each day.   I hope that we can learn to recognize that when someone does do us wrong us, they need our grace more than our disgust.

Love you all, can't say it enough!
Have a great Thursday!

  1. Mrs. Hempey,
I really like your last paragraph here; especially, "Move forward with positive assumptions and beliefs that everyone is doing the best they can each day. I hope we can learn to recognize that when someone does us wrong, they need our grace more than our disgust."

    Wishing you health,
    Maureen
