No More Turning Away
Good Morning CBMS Students
Thanks for checking back in for your daily dose of online love from yours truly! (Make sure you get to the end of this post to hear Pete's Posse cover Pink Floyd's No More Turning Away).
First, a shout out to cougar community member Maisy Gendimenico from the Knights team for completing one row and one column of the Bingo Challenge I posted yesterday! Keep up the good work Maisy! I know a couple of others were looking it over, so don't forget to let me know if you get a bingo, I'll give you a shout out too.
Today I wanted us all to think a little bit about our shared experience...
Considering our isolation and social distancing practices, it may seem like we are all doing our own separate thing during this strange time, but if you think about it, we are all completing a really amazing act of solidarity. For the time being, we are sacrificing our normal routines - forgoing our sports seasons, musical performances, and group activities, and now even school - for the common good of the whole. So that others, those that could become seriously ill and those that would care for them at local medical facilities, are not negatively affected.
In our communities and in our country we are pretty good at rallying when the big stuff happens. For example, we are good at raising money and rallying supplies for communities affected by natural disasters. I encourage you to imagine what we could do in our small CBMS community if we learned from this large act of solidarity that we are completing, and apply it to all the little hurts. If we practice it in our small connected community, then we can get really good at expanding it out into the world at large.
My lesson today is to remember not to turn away from other's suffering, imagining that it doesn't belong to you, but instead come together to support those in need always. Remember our shared human experience, and whether it be a new student in your classroom, someone that always eats alone, a fellow student being bullied in the hallways, or just a person, student or adult, that needs help, let us not turn away. Let us see them and be courageous enough to come together to make a difference.

Thanks for sharing this! I've heard that song a hundred times, but never really listened to the lyrics. So appropriate for today.
